lockdown 2020
Covid 19 has had an enormous impact on New Zealand and the world as most countries went into very strict lockdown for around two months. There were ups and downs especially in level 4 but New Zealanders mostly stuck to the rules, and the benefits were huge! We have only one active case in the whole country and no community transmission for at least one month. We are almost back to our normal lives.
Today I am going to explain my version of the good, the bad, the exciting and the sad moments of lockdown for my family. As I reflect on lockdown it wasn't as bad as I first thought it was going to be. Sure, I was bored at some stages but we were able to spend lots of time together because all my family came home.
When lockdown first started my brothers came home from boarding school which was awesome because we could do so much more. My older brother Eddie had always wanted to make a mountain bike track on our farm so that was our goal. We spent each day working on building the jumps and it was so much fun.
Because of lockdown, we were able to play lots of games like basketball and soccer as it is always better when you have more people. I could sleep in and not have to worry about getting up and being stressed. During lockdown my family and I could get lots of exercise done, we would get up in the morning and go for a run or we would play sports to keep our fitness up. The benefits that came out of lockdown was that people are more conscious about washing their hands and social distancing. I did quite a bit of cooking during lockdown, and each night we all had a turn so that Mum didn't have to cook every night. mum and I cooked dinners together and we also did lots of baking, it was delicious. learning was different in lockdown because I was stuck at home with my family.
With the goods there's bound to be bads. Being stuck at home with my family there is gonna be fights. I expected there to be fights because we are a family of six and are bound to have some arguments when living together unable to go and see other people. As I suspected there were quite a few fights, but at the end of the day we all forgive each other and called it a day. Annoyed at times because I hated not being able to go into town and do all the things that I could normally do. I was really disappointed to hear that my netball was going to be cancelled. At times I would have get really frustrated because I was sick of lockdown and wanted to do something different for once.
The most exciting thing that happened to me was my birthday, it was awesome because my birthday was in level 2 and I was allowed a few friends over to celebrate my birthday with me. I had the best time and it was awesome to see them all again. Another exciting thing that happened to me was that I got the news that I had been accepted to Iona which is a school in Hawkes Bay!
The sad side of lockdown was not being able to see my grandparents in lockdown because they are living in Hastings and I really missed seeing them. But we made sure we called them every night. I felt sad that they were alone with no family near them but we were always cheerful and made them feel loved. Another sad part of lockdown was when New Zealand would announce another death from covid 19. It was awful that their families could not be by their side when they died or that they could not attend a funeral. I was sad when we found out that Grace and I are going to different schools next year but the positive is at least our schools are across the school from each other.
